TRIO Student Support Services

The TRIO SSS Scholars Program  provides limited-income, first-generation, and disabled college students with academic support services which enable students to persist and graduate from The University of West Alabama. The program provides an interconnected series of academic support services: study skill development through workshops and classes to achieve academic success, peer tutoring to master course content, intrusive academic and personal counseling to build confidence, and career and graduate exploration activities to increase awareness of the range of career options. The SSS Scholars Program also seeks to improve the climate in which the program operates for the purpose of improving the success of the SSS students.

Students who do not qualify for Student Support Services may request tutoring and other academic support through UWA CARES (Center for Achievement, Retention, and Enrichment Services). Located in Spieth Hall 200, UWA CARES provides students with access to free tutoring, free printing (up to 10 pages per day), monitored study hall, and daily use of desktops, laptops, and tablets.

To request a tutor, please complete the Tutorial Request form and email it to Mrs. Lasandra Tolbert (spatrick@uwa.edu)  or Mrs. Morgan Shelton (mshelton@uwa.edu).
